Yongsik Park - STANDING ON THE BORDERLINE

Gallery Skape 2007.10

Anthropomorphized animals are found in fables, cartoons or fairy tales to 'scold' or to 'satire' wrongdoings of human. Their world is just like ours with the still rampant law of survival of the fittest. Also, so-called, justice rules the world so the good prevails and the villains are punished, like the Aesop Fables, Lion King and the Big-Eyed Frog. Yongsik Park - BLURRING THE BORDERLINE

International du CEAAC, Strasbourg France 2008

Ever since he released works featuring robots in 1999, Yongsik Park has employed images of animals cute enough to be from cartoons. These animals, placed in everyday, natural or fabricated situations, are usually familiar to us, such as dogs, ducks, horses, and mice, and the resulting compounds are diverse, including the original sculpture as well as photographs, installations and drawings. Although recent works using twigs seem to focus on connectivity rather than concrete substance or subjectivity, Park's interest in domesticated animals continues.

Yongsik Park - HYBRID DEVICE

Artspace Hue 2004.11

In the late 1990s contemporary Korean sculpture underwent a tendency that artworks appropriated three-dimensional quality from two-dimensional or everyday images. As the early cubists made an attempt to dimensionalize flat planes, the conceptions of objects and installations were frequently stated and newly interpreted. In the late 20th century often referred to as the age of images, artificial goods and commodity images are pervasive. In this era these images are represented in forms of objects or installations in space.
