Generally, a painting in Indian ink is called the art of space, and the art of time. The art of space is a well known expression that anyone can understand. As for the sense of time, generally ink-stick is made of carbon and glue, so it refers to the properties resulted from the thin layer of glue between strokes. Yunhee Seo’s works express this sense of space and time very well.

Read River(2009) is an experimental project to discover a relationship between river and its city by collecting water from river flowing through its city and observing it with microscope. The images of micro-substances found in river water are used as visual clues or signs to understand the river and city.

Greener Greener(2009), blending a blue pigment in a pond and painting leaves and fruit green and red, is to visualize a phenomenon associated with natural colors such as blue water, green leaves and red fruit, and define the ideal nature of objects rather than just describing one of its attributes.

Seungwoo Back - Real World

The grandiose title "Real World" is given to photographs of curious miniature buildings at a theme park and toy soldiers placed on a quiet road-side. The game of Seung Woo Back begins as he names his pictures of fake models a "Real World." So what is the real world? The game, which commences as we look at the photographs, seems to have obscure rules and traps set here and there, leaving us with no clues how to understand it.

This work was initially inspired by heaps of red pepper powder at the corner of a traditional market. As a photographer-cum-housewife who has never properly made kimchi, I saw the pepper powder like high, red mountains absolutely impossible to go over.
