Jihyun Lee - Mash up

Gallery SUN Contemporary 2006.06

Lee Ji-hyun’s painting uses a postmodern dramaturgy that asserts that culture is an illogical sequence of event through time and space, and enacts a collaged reality. Like fragments of ceramics unearthed by archaeology, Lee embodies the shattered debris of culture and reassembles historical moments into her mew painting.

Heeseung Chung - The Triumph of Failure

N O A M G A L L E R Y 2010.02

On October 19th, 1839, physicist and politician Francesc Joan Domènec Aragó of the Académie des Sciences (Royal Academy of Sciences), announced the invention of photography, then literally a newborn technology in the history of the image.

Heeseung Chung - Persona

gallery wa 2008.05

Photographic portraiture, on a fundamental level, implies the issue on how to portray the inner self of an individual through the camera. As this invisible and constantly changing self, cannot be bound to the temporality of photographic representation, the human face in the photograph is always regarded as both familiar and strange. This series of images, entitled Persona, was inspired by my interest in this intrinsic issue within the genre of photographic portraiture.

Seungchun Lim - arctic circle 66˚ 33´- The land that never sleeps

MORO GALLERY 2009.11

There was a kid with three eyes in Lim Seung-chun’s painting. The child squatted on a stand in a worn-out sweatshirt. I thought I must have mistaken him for something else, or it was an illusory object caused by vertigo. The child, with slender arms and legs, gazed at me, sitting on the stand. His gaze pierced my body. Evading the gaze, and feeling unrest, I asked, “Who are you?”

Seungchun Lim - Dream ship 3

KWANHOON gallery 2008.09

When he created his world in the beginning, he made 8 artworks with his own hands. And he started to tell stories through these works. In the imaginary world that he created, the lowliness and nobleness of everyday life coexist like Heaven and Hell, and men struggle with their own desires that soar endlessly to the sky like the Tower of Babel and continue to multiply themselves while making a constant demand for the blood of Isaac. And this is directly transposed into the reality on which we are standing.

Jaehoon Lee - UNMONUMENT

Kumho Museum 2008.04

In the last solo exhibition, "Face to Face", held at Art Forum New Gate, showing anonymous facial images like the masks, Lee Jae-Hoon began to ask questions to spectators, with a title of "What is your face?" The query reflected on a critical mind concerning the superficial communication methods of contemporary people, with a real face of an individual hided.

Byungho Lee - Blow up

GALLERY ZANDARI 2009.02

Byung Ho Lee’s artwork attracted my attention at a group exhibition. Among other installations and sculpture taking a large space in between, snowy-white modest-size pieces of sculpture were placed quietly. His works such as the head statue of a child (Childhood, 2007) and the torso of a man (Torso, 2007) appear to be plaster statues that can be easily found in art institutes or art studios, which makes them intriguing. Why are these pieces here?
