The Grand Opening of HITE Collection

HITE Foundation is pleased to announce the grand opening of the HITE Collection. Established to share its collection with the public, HITE Collection opens with an exhibition of one of the most renowned sculptors in the history of modern and comtemporary Korean sculpture, KWON Jin Kyu(1922-1973), Cause & Effect, a permanent installation by Do Ho SUH(b.1962).

KWON Jin Kyu: Exile, Eternal-Internal
Exile, Eternal-Internal consists of four sections: "Messengers," "Holes," "Salvation," and "Silence." These four key words are at the heart of an earnest hope to realize a dream that hasn't yet been fulfilled elsewhere. The exhibition presents a journey encompassing chaotic turmoil and a longing for salvation accompanied by pain and loss. After the searche for the truth through meditation comes the introspective time for Anicca (impermanence) and Anatta (non-self). These four sections and their corresponding key words are not structured in a linear way defined by specific start and end points, and they are not indepedent from each other. Rather, each section is an open structure operating in a mutual and circular manner.

Do Ho SUH : In-Yeon
Alongside its plan to construct an exhibition hall for new commissions, the HITE Foundation decided to commission Do Ho SUH to develop a long-term installation for the space. The renovation plan for the exhibition ahll and the design of his work were conducted simultaneously. For this commission SUH wanted to integrate the work into the architectual and functional characteristics of the exhibition hall and also to make the heritage and spirit of modern and contemporary Korean sculpture, as exampified by the HITE Foundation's KOWN Jin-Kyu collection, visible.
Documentary videos of Cause & Effect and a book titled "인연"(In-Yeon) accompany this commision and offers glimpses of the entire process from inception, design and production to installation as well as the insights and recollections of a number of people related to the project.
