KIM YUNHO_solo exhibition |
Oct 18 2010 |
Opening 14 Oct. 6pm
Kim Yunho shows his new series of work that comments on the location, technique and creation of the "Korean" photograph from the viewpoint of a background observer. Through "Sajinjeon," Kim Yunho deals with the common subject matter of the domestic Korean photograph things such as, bamboo, a pine tree, stone, grass etc. These subjects have become familiar landscapes in the "Orientalism" that pervades this type of work. The artist is curious about the common patterns found in these domestic photo artworks. The works in this exhibition stress the object of the photograph as stressed by the lighting. In Kim's older works, he showcased the somewhat tedious landscapes of the beauty contest, postcards, and tour buses as a commentary on the patterns found in society's affairs. This exhibition is an exploration into the acute gaze of the act and the presentation of the photograph. This exhibition takes the artist in a new direction as he inquires into the medium of the art show photograph - in essence, an introspective self-examination and contemplation of his work.
