Yi Joungmin questions us on 'The Location of Sensation' in this show. 'The Location of Sensation' has two meanings roughly. The first is about the operation between physical senses and soul as we have already known from her last show entitled 'Binge-purge syndrome': it is a medical term to denote a symptom in which a person has an overwhelming desire of particular food or can't feel fullness after meal and abnormal appetite continues. Yi Joungmin used this term as a strong metaphor to symbolize 'ontological hunger'. At this time, she shows her critical sight that various mental diseases like Melancholia, Anorexia etc. come from social deficiency as well as personal deficiency, and expresses the will for transcendence at the same time more profoundly in her planes. The Second is about the painting of 'Sensation'. It means that her paintings can't be classified under two heads: figurative and abstract. The 'Sensation' is akin to Gilles Deleuze's term used when he analyzed paintings of Francis Bacon. And also it is very similar to 'Xie yi(寫意)': a notion of Oriental painting theory. By her brushstrokes like respiration affected by the way of brushstrokes of Oriental 'Shan shui(山水)' painting and her experiment on the insoluble traits between Indian ink and acrylic colours attaining maturity, She extends the possibility of 'haptique' painting, i.e., not the painting perceived by brain but the painting of 'Sensation' felt by body.
