Introduction The Municipal Museum of Fine Arts is the first public arts museum in the central part of the country. It aims to enrich people’s lives by contributing to the development of local and national arts communities and to help people share their achievements. The Museum, which opened on April 15, 1998, is a two-storey building with an area of 28,827.75㎡ including one basement level. There are five exhibition halls, storage facilities, an auditorium, seminar rooms, outdoor fountains and a sculpture park. It covers 8,407.37㎡ of floor space. The museum is located in the Dunsan area, a new downtown which developed with the hosting of the 1990 Daejeon International Exposition. There are many public organizations in the area, including the National Government Complex, City Hall, the Regional Court, and the Prosecutors’ Office with large residential areas as well. Daedeok Science Town, Daedeok Valley, Expo Park, the National Science Museum, Yuseong Spa, and concert halls, are located across the Gap-cheon (river) and add to the convenience of the museum’s location. The musem is located in Dunsan Grand Park, which encompasses the Pyeongsong Youth Center, the Hanbat Arboretum, inline skate-park, and the museum on an area of 600,000㎡. Rich cultural facilities in the park attract people all year around.
