| Introduction |
Furniture designer Jung-Hyun Han has pursued her career by attending various international and national design fairs and exhibitions. To name the few, she participated in London Designersblock (2004), Salon de Meuble de Paris (2005), and Gwangju Design Biennale (2005). Her works are introduced in major journals such as the Wallpaper.
She established “design jh,” a furniture company, in 2004. In the next year, she opened “the other side” in Seoul, a design office with a wine bar. The goal was to make a place where people would gather, eat, drink, and appreciate her furniture. “the other side” also provided a space for exhibitions and experiments for designers of different fields. “design jh” and “the other side” are merged to open “chairs on the hill” in 2007.
Located at the end of an alley in Gahoi-dong, where the traditional flavor of old Seoul is still kept, “chairs on the hill” displays and sells Han's furniture. The entire space is intended to use as a cultural complex: a showroom to display her furniture, a gallery to exhibit others works,and a cafe to enjoy design. Her furniture is custom-made. |
