Jung Yeondoo was first introduced artist through alternative space of Korea and was the artist selected as the artist of the year by the National Museum of Contemporary Art in 2007. He was youngest and first artist from the category of photograph-animated images who received such honor. In 2008, his video, “Mystery Nostalgia”(2007) was included in the show at the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the work was collected by the museum. He received media attention from both Korea and abroad. Jung Yeondoo has been widening the range of his art regardless genres; from photograph, video, stage design, etc. “Genie My Love,” (2001-2005) was a project to make participants’ dream to come true and the work projected people in different light than real life after closely examining their surroundings. “The Location”( 2005), is a photograph of a people taken in the dramatic setting as if they are acting in a play. This in return creates alternative reality that the artist conjured. Like this, the artist tells us story of dreams as he continuously crosses borders between the real and the fictitious. Recently he has presented a work that takes combined form of visual art and theatre entitled, “Cinemagician” (2009). This work received great attention for the experimental quality that goes beyond museum settings as he was incorporating theatricality and pop art element into contemporary visual art.
