Kang Sukho’s works are showing “an act of painting classical tableau” with people as its motive. His main subject matters are ‘garments’ and ‘gestures.’ Partial images from anonymous people’s clothes are transferred on canvas after they were captured and blew up. It is the same part being focused as that the part coincidently caught on people’s eyes when they see people. They are also trimmed images of a body that indicate gestures of politicians and celebrities typically make. Then the public image of themselves that people want to possess is condensed to such momentary, captured pose. When they are transferred on to a picture plane, each image creates the artist’s unique visual aura. Though they appear consistent in terms of colors and forms on the paintings, each painting possesses its own depth. Thus it can be said that each art work stands on its own rather than accentuate organic links between works. This tells us that the artist’s interest lies on the fundamental objectives of painting, which is the act of painting as he pursues finding his own unique may of painting more than the subject and that symbolizes.
